Observations:
Growth has been slow, but steady over the last seven days. We are seeing light splotches of mycelial growth in many places across the surface of the soil in the tray.
Experiment is currently operating out of garage. Current temperature of garage is 60°F. This can lead to stalling, but it is worth the experiment to test upper and lower bounds of operation for the machine.
Previous Hypothesis:
While we are implementing direct moisture and temperature sensors, in the mean time, we can directly sense the dehydration process that occurs with the mushroom grow environment. In doing so, we can determine the mass/moisture ratio we need for optimal mycelial growth. How cool is that!
That is the hypothesis. Truth is, any and EVERY time a human comes into interaction with the environment we introduce vectors. The questions are how much and will they win in competition with the current environment.
The two best ways to guarantee growth are to provide the best environment for the species of mushroom and isolate all exterior vectors.
In our case, we determined that the system needed 16 fluid oz. of distilled water to regain optimal growth parameters. We added a casing layer, introduced 16 oz. of water over 4 hours of operation. Then, we are introducing a three-day cycle simulating the forest floor itself.
Revised Hypothesis:
Settings for the three days seems to have recovered the soil moisture we were looking for for ideal flush conditions. Debating on whether or not to move operation back in side to "normalize" operating temperature.
Expected Results:
I expect a flush of some type to occur in the next few days.
