Company Overview
FOREST FLOOR is an innovative biotech start-up revolutionizing mushroom cultivation. We’ve developed the world’s first fully-automated mushroom appliance, designed and potentially manufactured in Denver, CO.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Contract Industrial Design Engineer (or a small team) to collaborate with us on a short-term, hybrid/remote project. This role is based in Denver Metro Area, CO, and/or Phoenix Metro Area, AZ.
Your mission: Help take our functional mushroom appliance prototypes to the next level by refining product design, engineering, and manufacturability. The focus will be on Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) to determine the cost of goods sold (COGS) for our next-gen product, which involves multiple dies and diverse manufacturing methods.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with a small, cross-functional team to enhance product design and engineering.
* Provide expert input on DFA and DFM to optimize assembly and production.
* Contribute to product development, CAD, 3D modeling, and prototyping.
* Refine manufacturing processes and material selection.
* Identify opportunities for cost optimization and scalability.
Team Collaboration Structure
* Kick-Off Event: 3 hours (November or December) in Denver and/or Tempe.
* Weekly Sprints: Seven 1-week sprints with Saturday meetings at 9 AM MST (max 2 hours).
* Optional Midweek Check-In: Wednesdays at 9 PM MST (max 1 hour).
* Wrap-Up Event: 2 hours in Denver and/or Tempe.
Time Commitment
* Maximum of 5 hours per week.
* This is a flat-bid contract with flexible working hours.
* Selection will prioritize skills and team compatibility over time spent. A breakthrough idea in 30 minutes could be as impactful as a longer process.
Qualifications (one or more)
* Proven experience in product design, industrial design, or mechanical engineering.
* Expertise in Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
* Experience taking functional prototypes to production-level design.
* Knowledge of start-up costs, manufacturing processes, and ergonomics.
* Proficiency in CAD and 3D modeling.
* Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
* Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Engineering, or a related field.
Bonus Points
* Experience or interest in mycology (mushroom cultivation).
* Familiarity with alternative/psychedelic drugs and/or CO Prop 122 (Colorado law).
* We drug test. We test you on your knowledge of drugs.
