Day Zero in FF Model 101

The FOREST FLOOR™ Model 101 works on 1980's "Casset Design" Principles: Allowing for interchanging content (casset/tray), inside the main physical hardware (box). FOREST FLOOR is currently building a network of mycologists and businesses that will serve individual communities across the United States. 

FOREST FLOOR™ will have a few Standard Tray designs in the future for different styles and techniques for growing. Initially, we will be shipping with a standard 20.6 quart / 16 lb. tray, as seen in the following photos. This particular tray was prepared 26-Sept-2024, which was 14 days before the opening day of Psycon. 

Shout-out to Mushroom Mike for hooking us up with the 6 lb. P.E. Bull Run spawned bag of sterilized barley. Shout-out to Monster Mushroom Company for the two 5 lb. bags of sterilized soil.

Notes for Preparation: 

• Preparing tray for PsyCon - Psychedelic Conference, 10-12 October 2024, Denver, Colorado. 
• Maintain a sterile environment. Perform all actions with surgical gloves, face mask with a spray-bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol.

Prep Time & Materials needed:

• You will need about an hour or less, depending upon your sterility procedures or S.O.P.s (Standard Operating Procedures). 
• You will need to have fully inoculated 6 lbs of grain spawn before proceeding with the following tutorial. 

• 10 lbs. of proper mushroom soil mix.  (Example 2x 5 lb. bags from Monster Mushroom).
• 16 lb. (20.6 quart) tray w/ CO2 overflow ports. This tray comes standard with the FOREST FLOOR ™ Model 101. 

Step 1: With gloves and after cleaning the tray, outside of bags, and table with 70% isopropyl alcohol, open one bag. Place a thin layer (about 1/2") on the bottom of the sterilized tray. Separate the bag from the solid block of mycelium and place in the center of the tray. 

Step 2: Create homogeneous mycelium and soil mixture by gently breaking off parts of mycelium and adding soil in an evenly distributed manner. 

Step 2: Finished when we put a casing layer over the top to simulate dead leaves on the actual forest floor. 

Step 3: Place 16 pound tray in FOREST FLOOR Model 101.

Step 4: Lock Model 101 and program for mushroom species by selecting on the menu. For this test, we pulled a Spinal Tap and put humidity at 11, AKA, full throttle. 

Step 5: You are ready to rock and roll!
